Back when the pandemic first hit, I was in shock, as most people probably were. We were told to stay home. We lived in fear.
Fast forward a few months and PPE solutions came out. Plexiglass was in high demand (yes, we supply this too!). Masks were more commonplace. Social distancing was becoming the new normal. The news started reporting about UVC. CTV News came out with this article back in April. In sum, UVC lights are extremely effective at deactivating the DNA of bacteria and viruses. They kill them at 99.99% efficiency. Click To Tweet It’s a technology that’s used in water filtration, hospitals, public transportation, dentistry, and more. Yet, our government hasn’t come out and suggested the use of it as an additional means of minimizing COVID-19 risks yet, so we don’t hear too much about them these days. If you want to learn more, check out some facts by the FDA.
I did extensive research online to figure out how to bring these into Canada and am happy to report that you can now order yours here (scroll down to the bottom). The pros of UVC sound pretty clear to me. The applications are plenty! Public places, restaurants, washrooms, offices, warehouses, manufacturing plants, lobbies, arenas, elevators, libraries, and so much more. You have to be careful though!
The cons are fairly straight forward too. UVC is dangerous to people’s skin and eyes so people cannot be in the same room as it when it’s on. So, it’s a simple equation. Run it only after people have left or else use the UVC Air solution while people are in the room. Our machines have sensors on them so they can turn off if some approaches too closely and they operate with a remote so that you can start it after you leave the room you want to zap.
As a Canadian and a hockey player, I personally see arenas using these in dressing rooms. The portable mobile unit can easily be rolled in before and after players enter to get dressed, can be run while they are on the ice, and then after the players leave.
Skyline Entourage has several UVC solutions that are ready to go, including the air one which is completely enclosed so it can be used while people are in the room. The cabinet unit is also really handy to clean phones, masks, tablets, and other smaller household items. More solutions are in the works so stay tuned for new product launches coming soon.
Until then, we are now deep into our 2nd wave, likely with the worst still yet to come. It’s time to act. It’s time to do your part. Please help us help you in making spaces (air and surfaces) safer.
