- Ottawa is confirming that previously threatened counter-tariffs for U.S. products will proceed by Wednesday. Canada is responding to a 10% tariff on Canadian aluminum. Trudeau to reveal his choice of U.S. targets from a preliminary list published in August.

- Quebec sees a huge jump in the number of children to be homeschooled this year, according to new statistics. The jump went from 6,000 last year to an expected 10,000 this fall. President of Quebec Association for Home Education is not surprised as its number of members has also surged.

- Doctors are fearing that the upcoming flu season will blur the lines between the flu, the cold and COVID-19. Experts say the only way to distinguish them will be through testing, which facilities are already at capacity in some of the province’s cities.

- Microsoft is releasing a statement that their offer to buy Tik Tok’s U.S. operations has been rejected. This now paves the way for Oracle to secure a last-minute deal. However, any deal reached would still require approval from a number of parties including U.S. and Chinese governments.

- Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine could be distributed to Americans by end of the year if found to be safe and effective. Key data from its late-stage trials for the Food and Drug Administration are expected by end of October. Pfizer’s vaccine contains genetic material, or RNA to provoke immune response.

- OPEC announced Monday that world oil demand to fall more steeply in 2020 than expected and recover slower, which could make it harder for the group to support the market. The group estimates world oil demand to tumble by 9.46 million barrels per day this year.

- New figures show that British employers are planning twice as many redundancies than they did in the height of the last recession. 180,000 job cuts were planned January-March 2009, and 380,000 were planned May-July this year. Completed redundancies expected to reach 735,000 this fall.
