- Canada’s dominant chain of movie theaters, Cineplex, striking a $250 million financing deal with lenders after a failed takeover, as it deals with uncertain future. Although lenders agreed to relax some covenants due to the virus, some of the money will have to go to debt repayment.
Source - As of July 1, both Air Canada and Westjet will be selling middle seats again on their aircrafts. The News comes after the International Air Transport Association (ATA) called for end of social distancing measures on aircrafts. Health experts warn this could lead to further spread.

- Montreal officials used emergency COVID-19 powers to hire a lobbying and communications firm that has now billed taxpayers more than $140,000 for the first 21 days of work to advise the city’s health care officials how to explain dozens of mysterious deaths.

- Cirque du Soleil has filed for creditor protection while developing a plan to restart business. It also announced 3,480 workers that were previously furloughed have now been terminated. Multiple stakeholders to inject money while Investissement Quebec to give US$ 200 million loan.

- Analyst suggests that US policymakers could “change the world” by devaluing the dollar claiming there is a shortage of dollars in the global market. He goes on to argue that targeting the value of the dollar would stop the periodic flare ups where investors sell assets to create dollars.

- Principal deputy CDC director, Dr. Schuchat, says the virus is spreading too rapidly and broadly for the US to bring it under control. Dr. Schuchat states that the sheer size of the country makes the public response difficult as it hits different parts of the nation. Only a vaccine can offer relief.

- WHO chief says the coronavirus pandemic is accelerating around the world as many countries have reopened their economies. Resurgences of the virus have been seen in multiple countries. WHO states that tracing and quarantining contacts is the “most important intervention”.

- China has passed Hong Kong security law and said to come into effect July 1, as fears for the future deepen. China’s president deemed the law necessary to deal with separatism and foreign interference. Critics of the law fear it will destroy the autonomy promised to Hong Kong.
