- Stats Canada says the economy grew by 4.5% in May as businesses could reopen. Economists say that rebounds were seen in many industries including retail trade, registering 16.4% bump. The news exceeds economists’ initial forecasts which had projected a 3.5% increase.
Source - Air Canada is posting a $1.7 billion quarterly loss as COVID-19 dampened travel demand. This represents an average of a $20 million loss daily through April, May, and June. Air Canada revenues plummeted some 89%, now representing a loss of $6.44 per diluted share.

- A new report offers lessons in communication and coordinating decision making on the island of Montreal to be better prepared for a second wave. The report identified breakdowns and confusion within the many CIUSSS and the lack of well identified roles and responsibilities.

- Experts warn if Quebecers haven’t felt the effects of the longshoremen’s strike in the old port of Montreal, they will soon. Experts say that this infrastructure and this port represents the lifeline of commercial trade for the nation. It won’t be too long before products are in shortage.

- U.S. bureau of economic analysis is reporting that the U.S. plunged 32.9% in the second quarter, making it by far its worst contraction on record. The sharp contraction in consumer spending is mainly to blame, along with a plunge in exports, inventories, investments, and government spending.

- Not enough vaccines right away for all Americans, it’s the government’s job to oversee the manufacturing and distribution of doses accordingly. But state haven’t received new guidelines since April and need to know how, what, where and when for potential vaccine allocations.

- Eurozone suffers its deepest contraction on record. Among the hardest hit are Spain, with its economy shrinking 18.5% April to June, France’s GDP falling 13.8% in the second quarter and Italy reporting a 12.4% contraction. Across EU, the total economic contraction is at 11.9%.

- Hong Kong’s leader, Carrie Lam, has invoked emergency laws to postpone September’s legislative council election by a year, citing a surge in COVID-19 cases. Pro-democracy supporters are accusing authorities of using the virus as an excuse to delay defeat.
