Federal News
- Finance minister Bill Morneau proposes to extend government wage subsidy program until the end of the year. The changes would also open the program to more businesses by removing the need to prove a 30% revenue decrease in order to qualify.
Source - The federal government is implementing a “temporary income support program” that will provide 10 days of paid sick leave related to covid-19 for workers without access to pad leave. The program is estimated to cost $1.1 billion in federal funding.

- Quebec’s Superior Court, who is overseeing the processs, has given its approval to allow Cirque du Soleil to put itself up for sale. The current leader, Toronto firm Catalyst Capital Group has made an offer of $1.2 billion. Bidders have until August 18th to submit their offers.
Source - According to polls 27% of Quebec residents expressed that they plan to stay away from restaurants or bars that impose mask rules, which could hurt such venues greatly. Businesses that fail to comply with the law could be fined between $400 and $ 6,000.
