Federal News
- Canadian Pacific reports record year, quarter and month of grain transportation. The company has moved 8.84 million tons in the 4th quarter of 2020. Both CP and rival Canadian National Railway Co. have reported record monthly grain movements.
Source - BMO Financial Group says it has signed a deal to sell its private banking business in Hong Kong and Singapore to J. Safra Sarasin Group. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. The deal is still subject to regulatory approvals.

- Many anxious Quebecers are awaiting an update on the province’s lockdown plans. A rare 5pm press conference that was scheduled for Tuesday, has now been rescheduled for Wednesday evening. The press conference to come after meetings with leaders of the opposition and will be virtual.

- Health and education ministries announced a voluntary scholarship program for undergrad nursing students who “volunteer” full-time in hospitals for four months and in exchange will get a lump sum payment when students go back to school, up to $13,500 for a full-time student.

USA News
- U.S. treasury yields move higher this morning, ahead of Georgia’s runoff elections, which will determine whether Republicans keep hold of the Senate. The yield on the benchmark 10-year treasury note rose to 0.9315%, and the yield on 30-year treasury bond rose 1.6797%.

- The New York Stock Exchange will no longer delist three Chinese telecommunication giants, reversing a decision announced four days prior. The NYSE stated that “after further consultation with regulatory authorities…”, it has dropped the plans to delist.

- A majority of OPEC members, including Saudi Arabia, are opposed to Moscow’s proposal to increase oil output next month. The extension on ongoing talks casts doubt on the production increase of 500,000 barrels daily that the market was expecting for February.

- England imposes new and stricter lockdowns. People must now stay home except for a handful of permitted reasons. New lockdown restrictions forbids people from leaving homes for non-essential reasons and the new rules will be reviewed later in the month.
