Federal News
- The federal government extends the CERB program another month and revamps employment insurance program to allow more people to receive benefits. This benefit reform is set to help transition Canadians as the economy reopens set to cost $37 billion. Also provided, 10 paid sick days.
Source - Canada’s largest theatre operator, Cineplex Inc. to reopen all theatres and entertainment venues later this week. 164 theatres, 1,687 screens and 10 entertainment complexes. The reopening will allow for new movies to be released ahead of the U.S, including Nolan’s The Tenet next week.

- The shortage of teachers in the province and unions are raising concerns. Currently, there are 500 teaching positions opened across Quebec and unions pointing to the fact that many are retiring rather than facing a COVID-19 risk. However, education minister says people are being hired daily.
Source - The minister of economy, Mr. Fitzgibbon wants to attract pharmaceutical companies to the province by offering them the data from the Régie de l’Assurance Maladie (RAMQ), stating this will help future scientists in medicine and even cure the world’s population. Many are raising concerns.

- Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE are said to be on track to have the COVID-19 vaccine that has been jointly developed ready for regulatory review as early as October. Companies have said the vaccine was well tolerated with mild to moderate fever in less than 20% of participants.

- Joe Biden officially accepts the democratic party nomination for the presidency and vows to heal battered U.S. from a pandemic and division by current president Trump. Main areas Biden is said to pursue include immigration, climate change and gun safety. Elections set for November.

- EU’s chief negotiator Barnier lodged a stern warning on Friday at the close of seventh round of trade talks with the UK on BREXIT. Key issues revolved around fishing rights and competition rules. Both sides want a deal in place before the transition period ends on December 31st.

- British retail saw sales surge past pre-pandemic levels in the month of July. Retail sales volume rose 3.6% from June above all forecasts and were 1.4% higher than in July 2019. Most profitable were supermarkets, online purchases and home goods, however high street retailers are suffering.
